Policy on Punctuality

Punctuality at classes is held in great esteem at Middlesex College of Law. Regular attendance at classes is deemed of great importance if students are to excel and do well in their studies, which by implication lead to excellent examination results.

For the foregoing reason, Class Attendance Registers will be removed from the classroom 20 minutes after the class has commenced. Any student arriving after 20 minutes will not be permitted to sign the Register. Such student must stay in the Computer Room or Learning Resource Centre and will be allowed into the classroom after the tea break. This directive will be strictly adhered to by all lecturers.

I trust you will take your studies seriously and attend all your classes on time and regularly.

Policy on Mobile Phones

All students are kindly requested to switch off their mobile phones before the commencement of lectures. This is because of the distraction it causes when a mobile phone rings in the middle of a lecture.

This directive will be strictly adhered to by all lecturers, because they have been empowered to request any student that flouts this simple directive to leave the lecture room for the duration of the class.

Your co-operation in complying with this policy will be highly appreciated.

Health and Safety Policy

About this Policy

This Health and Safety Policy sets out the College’s commitment to health and safety and details the organisation and arrangements for implementing and monitoring the Policy.

The Health and Safety at Work Act, 1974 requires the College to prepare, regularly revise and bring this Policy to the notice of employees. The Policy will be reviewed in April, 2009 or if there are significant changes in legislation or the College’s structure before the review date.

Statement of Intent

A safe and healthy working environment is essential for nurturing excellence and the well being of our staff and students. The College is committed to progressive improvement in health and safety performance leading to standards beyond minimum legal requirements. To achieve this, we will ensure that health and safety is integrated with the other core management functions and that all our employees and students are equipped with the necessary information, instruction, training and supervision to carry out their responsibilities. We are committed to encouraging active participation by consultation and communication at all levels in the College.

Personal Safety

Under the health and safety legislation, the College is required to manage health and safety for its staff, students and others that may be affected by its activities. The Chief Executive has overall responsibility for health and safety, but all staff and students also have responsibilities to comply with the health and safety Policy. Whilst on the College premises and during field trips, you must:

-   take care that your actions do not put yourself or other people at risk

-   follow health and safety instructions/rules

-   report any faults or shortcomings in health and safety arrangements to your lecturer

All staff and students without exception are expected to comply with all health and safety regulations operating within the College and to acquaint themselves with these regulations. Failure to do so is a serious breach of the College’s regulations.

If you are concerned about any safety issue, speak to your lecturer, particularly on course matters. If your safety concerns cannot be resolved, you may contact the Admissions Secretary or the Chief Executive of the College.

Fire and Accidents

Fire Drills are held in the College on a regular basis. Students are asked to familiarise themselves with fire exits and assemble points and to respond quickly to the instructions of the Fire Marshalls and Sweepers in order to clear the building as speedily as possible.

Accidents and First Aid

All accidents must be reported to the Welfare Officer. First Aid boxes are available within the College premises and kept with the Welfare Officer. If emergency assistance or first aid is required outside normal teaching hours/office hours contact the Ambulance Services on 999.
